The tourism sector: Veracruz-Boca del Río, Ver., Mexico and the sustainable development goals

Abstract

The tourism industry is characterized by being one of the most dynamic sectors of the world economy, growth is constant, remaining within the main markets that generate the most wealth and employment in the world. Tourism has influenced the transformation, development and modernization of municipalities, communities, as well as cities and regions, derived from the implementation of tourist activities and capital investment relying on the wealth of natural, cultural and historical attractions, favoring local chains of production and services, generating demand for labor, creating jobs at all levels and giving rise to private investment, triggering the economic and social development of the populations. The importance of caring for the environment and populations must be emphasized through actions suggested by international organizations such as the United Nations (UN), through the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG). This study raises the following question: Do companies in the tourism sector know the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), sustainability and sustainability to take appropriate actions? The objective of this project is to identify the conditions and training needs of the tourism sector in the Veracruz-Boca del Río metropolitan area on knowledge and practices related to the SDGs. The study is descriptive, using the quantitative and qualitative method, the techniques used were a survey and a question guide to obtain information on sustainability and sustainability practices in companies.
