Territorial program Resilient food production in Mayabeque: contribution to the sustainable development of the province

Abstract

Introduction: Territorial Programs of Science, Technology and Innovation (PTCTI, initials in Spanish) demand the generation of basic and applied research, innovation and training of human capital for achieving a comprehensive development of the territory. Objective: identify the main results obtained after one year of functioning of the PTCTI “Sustainable and resilient food production in Mayabeque province”. Method: an exploratory and descriptive study was carried out. Analysis-synthesis and historical-logical techniques, of the theoretical level, were used. Out of the empirical level, documentary analysis, “Benchmarking” and survey were the selected ones. Results: the projects under development, corresponding to the PTCTI, exhibit encouraging results in food production, training of different actors, assimilation and implementation of new technologies, which contributes to territorial agricultural development. Conclusion: the application of science and technology, and the inclusion of scientific and technological advances into the territory, according to their endogenous characteristics, brings with it the improvement of the well-being of society and, therefore, the increase of territorial development. The operation of PTCTI “Sustainable and resilient food production in Mayabeque province” demonstrates this, by achieving results that contribute to sustainable food production through the application of innovative, environmental and resilient approaches and training of actors involved in this process, in order to generate an impact on the prioritized sector of food production, and, in this way, contribute to the sustainable agricultural development of the territory.
