Introduction: Orchiectomy, better known as castration, is one of the most common surgical procedures in veterinary practice, especially in canines. Objective: To compare which surgical methods of orchiectomy showed the best results in postoperative healing in canines. Method: This study compared scrotal and preescrotal orchiectomy techniques in 15 dogs. To this end, surgical techniques were compared, dividing the cases between the two techniques. A survey was also administered to 15 pet owners and 10 veterinarians to gather their opinions and experiences related to castration techniques. The variables evaluated were inflammation, pain, and postoperative complications. The Glasgow and Likert scales were used, with records every 24 hours. The variables studied were analyzed using the non-parametric Mann-Whitney U test for independent variables. The information collected was analyzed descriptively to determine which technique offered the best recovery results. All data were compiled using a standardized format to facilitate comparative analysis. Results: These results showed that the prescrotal technique had better results regarding inflammation, pain, and postoperative complications compared to the scrotal technique. Owners reported less pain and complications with the prescrotal technique, and veterinarians also supported these findings. Conclusion: The prescrotal technique proved to be the most effective, resulting in shorter recovery times and a lower incidence of postoperative complications.
