Sustainable practices in tourism equipment - lodging in Tampico Tamaulipas, Mexico

Abstract

Introduction: Sustainability practices allow companies to generate a positive impact on society and the environment. This research was applied to tourism facilities, specifically to the accommodation category in Tampico, Tamaulipas, Mexico. Objective: To analyze the use of sustainability practices by hotels registered on Booking.com in the municipality of Tampico, Tamaulipas, Mexico. Method: Quantitative, descriptive, cross-sectional, non-experimental. A review was made in the Booking metasearch engine of the city's hotels that have reported sustainability certification or sustainable practices Results: The study provides a diagnostic of the hotel sector. A total of 27 registered hotels in the municipality were identified, of which 35.76 % of Tampico hotels have a sustainable travel rating for the quality of their accommodations, due to their implementation of environmentally friendly practices. Conclusion: The hotel sector in the area is more reactive and is in an initial stage, as it begins to adopt sustainability measures, but it is necessary to promote environmental responsibility and energy efficiency, as well as emissions reduction, waste management and conservation of natural resources. These measures minimize the environmental impact of its operations and thus contribute to the conservation of natural resources with the aim of protecting the environment.
