Introduction: Currently, research on workplace climate in higher education institutions remains limited, despite its importance in the personal well-being perceived by employees over time. Objective: To analyze the evolution of workplace climate in three consecutive periods at an Ecuadorian public university, determining its significative variations and of those of its seven corresponding factors. Method: A quantitative, documentary and field-based study was conducted, with a descriptive longitudinal design; with an average of 456 participating collaborators per period. In order to compare the perceptions obtained in the study periods, the Kruskal-Wallis test was applied, in addition to a Post-Hoc analysis of pairwise comparison with the Mann-Whitney test and the Bonferroni correction (a= 0.017). Results: the three periods differed (H = 19.792; df = 2; p= 0.00005), showing a clear decline during period 2, but with a notable improvement in period 3 that surpasses the base line. Conclusion: The workplace climate in the institution It is a condition that presents variations in short intervals of time; the sense of belonging is the predominant factor in the three periods, it is recommended to deepen the investigations of the Work Climate under the parameters of the technical regulations in higher education institutions.
