Instructions for Authors

We appreciate your interest in publishing in the journal Universidad & Ciencia. Below are the guidelines for manuscript submission. The journal accepts two types of articles: Original Article and Review Article. Please ensure you follow these guidelines to guarantee timely evaluation and publication of your work.

1. Accepted Article Types

Original Article:
Unpublished research presenting original results and contributing to the advancement of knowledge in a specific area.
Must include: introduction, methodology, results, discussion, and conclusions.

Review Article:
A critical and updated synthesis of a specific topic, based on recent scientific literature.
Must include: introduction, thematic development, discussion, and conclusions.

2. General Manuscript Structure

All manuscripts must follow the structure below:

Title:
Brief, clear, and descriptive. Must reflect the article’s content.
In Spanish and English.
Authors:
Full names, institutional affiliation, email address, and ORCID (if available).
Indicate the corresponding author.
Abstract:
Maximum 250 words.
In Spanish and English.
Include objectives, methodology, main results, and conclusions.
Keywords:
3 to 5 keywords in Spanish and English.
Use standardized terms in the discipline.
Introduction:
Contextualize the research problem, review relevant literature, and state objectives.
Methodology (only for Original Articles):
Describe the design, methods, materials, and techniques used.
Include details that allow replication of the study.
Results:
Present findings clearly and in an organized manner.
Use tables, figures, and graphs when necessary.
Discussion:
Interpret results, compare with previous studies, and highlight relevance.
Conclusions:
Summarize the main contributions and suggest future research directions.
Acknowledgments (optional):
Recognition of institutions, funders, or collaborators.
References:
Follow APA citation style (7th edition).
Include only sources cited in the text.

3. Manuscript Format

Length:
Original Article: 15–20 pages.
Review Article: 20–25 pages.
Font: Times New Roman, size 12, line spacing 1.5.
Margins: 2.5 cm on all sides.
Tables and Figures:
Numbered with descriptive titles.
Include data sources if applicable.
Units: Use the International System of Units (SI).

4. Submission Process

Platform: Manuscripts must be submitted through the journal’s online platform (insert link).
Cover Letter: Attach a letter addressed to the Editor-in-Chief, indicating the article type and declaring the work is original and unpublished.
Originality Statement: Authors must sign a statement confirming the manuscript has not been published or submitted elsewhere.

5. Review Process

Initial Review: The Editorial Committee will assess the manuscript’s relevance.
Peer Review: Approved articles will be sent to external reviewers under a double-blind system.
Feedback: Authors will receive comments and suggestions for necessary revisions.

6. Ethical Considerations

Authors must ensure the academic and scientific integrity of the work.
For studies involving humans or animals, ethical committee approval must be attached.
Plagiarism and self-plagiarism must be avoided.

7. Copyright

Authors retain copyright but grant the journal the right of first publication.
Articles are published under a Creative Commons license (CC BY-NC-ND 4.0).
