Introduction: Burnying can have a negative impact on human talent undergoing training in the field of scientific research. Psychosocial factors such as stress, pressure from high expectations, and excessive workloads diminish creativity, innovation, productivity, and commitment to research projects, affecting both academic performance and emotional well-being. Objective: to understand the perceptions of talented individuals in the research training process regarding the psychosocial factors present in their environment that cause burnying. Method: qualitative approach with a case study design conducted at a university in southeastern Mexico. An online instrument was administered to master's and doctoral students. Initially, 105 responses were obtained, which were then refined, leaving 58 in the first cycle. After a second cycle due to data saturation, 42 records were obtained, which were analyzed using the theory of human needs hierarchies. ATLAS.ti 9 software was used for discourse decoding. Results: the academic and contextual factors that affect psychological aspects are modelled; it is also interpreted that social support from peers and family members is not sufficient to mitigate the effects of burnying. Conclusion: a university environment that fosters open communication and emotional support not only improves students' well-being, but also enhances their academic performance and their ability to face the challenges inherent in research.
