University in the face of challenges of local and turistic development in Cuba
Abstract
Tourism activity is perceived as an instrument of notable utility to favor development processes at different scales, among these, the local level has possibly been the one in which its effects have been most clearly appreciated, as intense processes have been observed in recent decades. of tourist growth in local spaces with structural development deficiencies; In what industrialization was not considered as the driving force of the economy and traditional agriculture has shown itself incapable of continuing to be the fundamental support, in terms of income and employment generation, of economic structures that are increasingly poorly adapted to the new competitiveness scenarios. Sustainable development seeks to enhance local capacities and initiatives, proximity to problems, needs and resources allows communities to draw up development policies in concert with different actors and sectors, thus stimulating a proactive and democratic culture for development. local. In this sense, this reflective article is oriented, whose main objective is to present the perspective of Cuba in the relationship between local development and tourism development. The article is based on the bibliographic review of some authors on local development, in the Latin American region and in Cuba. The methods used allowed to unveil the objective set. As main results, the need to deepen the studies of the possibilities of achieving local development from tourism development is identified.
