Enfoque y alcance

Educación y Sociedad es una revista de investigación científica, adscrita a la Facultad de Ciencias Pedagógicas de la Universidad de Ciego de Ávila Máximo Gómez Báez. Su objetivo es divulgar la producción científica y académica generada en instituciones educativas del territorio del país y del extranjero en el ámbito de las Ciencias de la Educación.

La revista se publica en idioma español e inglés. Se publican trabajos originales en las siguientes modalidades: artículos de investigación, artículos de revisión, ensayos científicos y reseñas. Los trabajos deben ser el resultado de investigaciones científicas, revisiones documentales y procesos de formación académica. Pueden derivarse de la reflexión crítica y de experiencias sobre la práctica educativa, así como  de la actividad científico-metodológica.

Tiene una periodicidad cuatrimestral: primer número enero-abril, segundo número mayo-agosto y tercer número septiembre-diciembre. Se publica el número en construcción al que se incorporan los artículos en el momento en que sean aprobados por el arbitraje, con cierre en la segunda quincena de los meses enero, mayo y septiembre. Ocasionalmente, pueden publicarse números especiales y monográficos.

La revista se dirige a investigadores, docentes, estudiantes universitarios y otros interesados en las diferentes disciplinas del campo de las Ciencias de la Educación. Las colaboraciones abarcan los siguientes campos temáticos: Educación de pregrado y postgrado; Educación cívica y patriótica; Filosofía de la educación; Psicología de la educación; Pedagogía; Didáctica; Didácticas particulares de las asignaturas y áreas del conocimiento; Investigación educativa; Dirección científica educacional; Trabajo extensionista; Tecnología y ciencias de la información y las comunicaciones; Educación para la salud; Educación ambiental; Educación jurídica, Educación económica; Formación de profesionales; Formación de docentes y Orientación profesional pedagógica.

Proceso de evaluación por pares

Todos los artículos serán sometidos al proceso de análisis y evaluación mediante el sistema de revisión por pares (en su mayoría externos), modalidad a doble ciegas, garantizando el anonimato de autores y árbitros. El proceso de evaluación de los artículos comenzará a partir de la fecha en que el Consejo Editorial constate el cumplimiento de las normas editoriales. La revisión de los artículos no se cobra ni a los autores, ni a las instituciones. La revista no se responsabiliza con los criterios contenidos en el artículo.

Pasos del proceso de revisión:

  1. Se verifica que el escrito cumple con los requisitos solicitados en las directrices para los autores. El artículo será devuelto a sus autores, si se constatara la existencia de problemas de redacción, de ajuste al estilo científico o a las normas de publicación de la revista; podrá volver a presentarse al proceso editorial cuando sean resueltos los señalamientos.
  2. Se constata que el artículo no incurre en plagio ni autoplagio.
  3. Se envía el artículo a dos expertos del Comité Científico, sin los datos personales de los autores.
  4. Se dictamina por los expertos --preferiblemente en línea, mediante el formulario establecido--,  en un plazo de cuatro semanas a partir de la fecha en que reciban el artículo, uno de los siguientes fallos:
  • Aceptar el envío.
  • Publicable con modificaciones.
  • Reenviar para revisión.
  • No publicable.

Formularios de revisión:

Si uno de los expertos no estuviera de acuerdo con la publicación del artículo, este será sometido a revisión por parte de un tercer evaluador; el criterio predominante será definitorio. El artículo corregido se verificará nuevamente por los expertos. En caso necesario se enviará por segunda y  última vez a los autores para las correcciones pertinentes.  El período de publicación estimado es de noventa días.

Política de acceso abierto

La revista Educación y Sociedad asume la política de acceso abierto para proveer el acceso gratuito a la información y al uso sin restricciones, de los artículos que publica, por parte de todas las personas. Es posible acceder a sus contenidos de manera libre, sin costo alguno para los lectores; estos pueden descargar, almacenar, copiar, resumir, adaptar y distribuir el trabajo publicado de forma gratuita, siempre que sea sin fines comerciales y se referencien la fuente y autoría del trabajo. Los autores no asumen ningún costo por el procesamiento editorial de sus artículos; ni autores ni revisores recibirán remuneración alguna por la revisión o publicación de los trabajos.

Política antiplagio

La revista Educación y Sociedad se opone a cualquier manifestación contraria al uso ético de la información y a ese fin, aplica  las siguientes herramientas antiplagio:

Al detectarse plagio, ciberplagio o publicación  redundante, se procede de la siguiente forma:

Antes de la publicación del artículo: el Comité Editorial considerará el criterio de los autores, evaluará la situación con objetividad, determinará con precisión por la magnitud puede ser solucionado por el autor a instancias del editor, o si se requiere rechazar el artículo.

Luego de la publicación del artículo: el Comité Editorial considerará el criterio de los autores y evaluará la situación con objetividad. Una vez constatado el plagio, se retira el artículo de la publicación, se publica una nota de retractación, se informa a la institución y a las bases de datos en que se indiza la revista.

Información sobre el plagio

El plagio consiste en la apropiación de ideas, textos y microtextos de otros autores. Constituye una práctica deshonesta que afecta el prestigio de las publicaciones científicas y de los sujetos que incurren  en él.

Se incurre en plagio cuando: se omite la autoría; no se colocan las comillas; las referencias no propician el acceso a la cita; se hacen falsas paráfrasis (no hay aportaciones significativas); no se identifica la paráfrasis; se hacen cambios formales; no se revela la voz autoral; no se trasciende la reproducción de las ideas de las fuentes consultadas. Se incurre en autoplagio o publicación redundante cuando: se incorporan al artículo fragmentos de otro trabajo del propio autor sin indicar la referencia y cuando a un trabajo publicado se le hacen cambios mínimos y se presenta como una nueva publicación.

Normas éticas

La revista Educación y Sociedad asume el compromiso de favorecer el respeto a las buenas prácticas y normas éticas en la gestión editorial de acuerdo con lo siguiente:

  1. Se considera un requisito esencial la originalidad de los envíos.
  2. Se requiere que todas las personas incluidas como autores hayan contribuido de manera significativa al análisis y procesamiento de la información y la generación del conocimiento científico contenido en el artículo.
  3. Constituye una desviación ética la inclusión injustificada de autores, que no hayan aportado directamente al contenido científico del artículo. En caso necesario se recomienda hacer uso de notas de agradecimiento.
  4. Los autores son responsables de la confiabilidad de los datos, informaciones, conocimientos, análisis y enfoques contenidos en el artículo.
  5. Los autores y revisores deben informar al editor sobre la existencia real o potencial de conflictos de interés respecto al contenido del artículo.
  6. El Comité Editorial se compromete a atender con agilidad y transparencia los conflictos de interés que se presenten, analizar y dar respuesta a las quejas y apelaciones con honestidad, objetividad y apego a las normas editoriales y éticas asumidas por la revista.
  7. El Comité Editorial aplicará las prevenciones necesarias para evitar el surgimiento de posibles conflictos de interés. 
  8. Los editores y evaluadores mantendrán la discreción y confidencialidad respecto a criterios derivados del análisis de la calidad de los artículos.
  9. Los evaluadores se comprometen con el rigor científico en el proceso de revisión y a dictaminar en el plazo establecido.
  10. El Comité Editorial, en caso de detectarse plagio, ciberplagio o publicación redundante, aplicará el procedimiento establecido en la política antiplagio: rechazar el envío (antes de publicarse) o retractación (si ya el artículo había sido publicado).
  11. El Comité Editorial es responsable del rigor en el proceso editorial, el enriquecimiento de las normas, requisitos y buenas prácticas que contribuyan a la calidad de la revista.

Historial de la revista

La revista Educación y Sociedad fue fundada en el año 2004, adscrita al antiguo Instituto Superior Pedagógico “Manuel Ascunce Domenech” de Ciego de Ávila, en 2008 devenido Universidad de Ciencias Pedagógicas  Manuel Ascunce Domenech. Posteriormente, mediante acuerdo No. 7599 del 2 de agosto de 2014, adoptado por el Comité ejecutivo del Consejo de Ministros, se fusiona esta institución con la actual Universidad de Ciego de Ávila Máximo Gómez Báez, adscrita  al Ministerio  de Educación Superior.

La revista está inscrita en el Registro Nacional de Publicaciones Seriadas (RNPS) del Ministerio de Cultura de Cuba, con el número 2073, folio 091, tomo III. En julio de 2017 fue certificada por el Ministerio de Ciencia Tecnología y Medioambiente de Cuba (CITMA).

Educación y Sociedad ha mantenido una publicación ininterrumpida desde su origen hasta la actualidad; durante sus primeros diez años con una frecuencia trimestral. A partir de enero de 2015 se producen cambios en la política editorial: salida cuatrimestral, cambio de logotipo, se dejan de publicar las secciones que estaban vigentes hasta el número anterior y se incorporan las secciones: Artículos, Aristas y perfiles y Contexto escolar.

Se publica un volumen por año, conformado por tres números; cada uno de estos se corresponde con un cuatrimestre del año fiscal.

Approach and scope

Educación y Sociedad is a scientific Journal which is annexed to the Faculty of Pedagogical Sciences at Máximo Gómez Báez University of Ciego de Ávila. Its objective is to divulge scientific and academic production generated at educational institutions from the province, the country and foreign countries with the purpose of promoting scientific exchange and the socialization of results in the scope of Sciences of Education.

The Journal is published in Spanish and English. It publishes original articles of the following types: research articles, document reviews, and processes of academic training. They can derive from critical reflection and experiences from educational practice, as well as from scientific-methodological activity.

The Journal is issued every four months: first issue (January-April), second issue (May-August) and third issue (September-December). Each issue in process of elaboration is published by adding the articles once they have been approved.  publishes original research articles, review articles and essays every four months: first issue (January-April), second issue (May-August) and third issue (September-December). The closing of each issue is done in the first two weeks of the months of January, May and September. Occasionally, special and monographic issues may be published.

The Journal is addressed to researchers, teachers, university students, and other specialists interested in different disciplines of the field of Sciences of Education. Collaborations include the following thematic fields: Pre-service and Postgraduate Education; Civic and Patriotic Education; Philosophy of Education; Psychology of Education; Pedagogy; Didactics; Particular Didactics of subjects and knowledge areas; Educational Research; Scientific Educational Direction; Extracurricular Work; Technology of Information and Communication Sciences; Health Education; Environmental Education; Juridical Education; Economics Education; Professionals Training; Teachers Training; Pedagogical Professional Orientation.

Peer Evaluation Process

All papers will be submitted to the process of analysis and approval with the peer evaluation system (mainly external peers), double blind peer revision modality, to comply with the anonymity of authors and referees. The evaluation process of articles begins once the Editorial Council verifies the compliance of them with the editorial standards as condition. Revision of articles is free of charges for authors and institutions. The Journal is not responsible for the criteria expressed in the article.

Phases of the evaluation process:

  1. Verification of the paper to make sure that it complies with the requisites requested in the standards for authors. If it is corroborated that the paper has any writing difficulties that affect the sense of the text, then it is returned to its authors.  The paper could be submitted again to the editorial process once the difficulties have been mended.
  2. Revision of the paper to avoid plagiarism or self-plagiarism.
  3. Sending of each paper to two experts of the Scientific Council without the personal details of the author/s.
  4. Experts will have four weeks to analyze the article upon the date the receive it and they will give their opinions—preferably online, by means of the predetermined form--, one of the following verdicts:
  • Submission is accepted
  • Publishable with amendments
  • Resubmit for revision
  • Not publishable

Revision forms:

In case one of the experts does not accept the publication of the article, it will be sent to a third expert for revision; the predominant opinion will be defining. The corrected article will be verified again by the experts; if necessary, it will be sent again and for the last time to the authors to make the corresponding amendments. Estimate publication period lasts 90 days.

Open Access Policy

Educación y Sociedad Journal assumes the open access policy to provide all people free access to the information and use of it without restrictions of the articles that are published. It is possible to have free access to its contents without any charges to the readers; they can freely download, save, copy, summarize, adapt and distribute the published paper always without any commercial purpose and referring the sources and author of the paper. Authors do no run any cost for the editorial process of their articles; neither authors nor reviewers will get remunerated by the revision or publication of the papers.

Educación y Sociedad Journal is against any manifestation opposed to the ethical use of information and for such aim, the following anti-plagiarism tools are applied:

Once plagiarism, cyber plagiarism, or redundant publication is detected, the Editorial Board of the Journal proceeds as follows:

Before the publication of the article: The Editorial Council will consider the opinion of the authors, will objectively assess the situation, will precisely determine the ethic transgression, will communicate the situation to the scientific community, will communicate the situation to the institution, and will reject the article.

After the publication of the article: The Editorial Council will consider the opinion of the authors, will objectively assess the situation. Once plagiarism has been verified, a retraction note is published; the institution will be informed, as well as the date base where the journal is indexed.

Information about plagiarism

Plagiarism consists in the appropriation of ideas, texts and micro texts of other authors with the intention of assuming them as one´s knowledge and constructions; it constitutes a dishonest practice that affects the prestige of scientific publications of the subjects that incur in it.

One incurs in plagiarism when: the authorship is omitted; quotation marks are not placed; references do not propitiate access to the cites; false paraphrase are made (there are no significant contributions); paraphrase is not identified; formal changes are made to be assumed as one's own; the author´s criteria and scientific critic are not revealed; reproduction of the ideas of consulted sources is not transcended. One incurs in auto-plagiarism or redundant publication when: fragments of another paper of the same author are incorporated without indicating the reference and when a published article is minimally changed and is presented as a different one.

Ethical Standards

Educación and Sociedad Journal assumes the commitment to favor and to generate the respect to the good practices and ethical standards in publication management, according to the following:

  1. Originality of papers is an essential requisite.
  2. It is required that all authors included in the article had significantly contributed to the analysis and information processing, and the generation of scientific knowledge contained in the article.
  3. An ethical deviation constitutes the free inclusion among the authors, of people whose contribution has not been directly connected with the scientific contents of the article. In such cases, it is recommended making use of notes of acknowledgment.
  4. The authors are responsible for the reliability of data, reports, knowledge, analysis and approaches contained in their article.
  5. The authors and reviewers must report the journal editor on real existence or potential of conflicts of concern in relation to the contents of the article.
  6. The Editorial Council commits itself to attending with agility and transparency the conflicts of concern that may appear, to examine and to give answer to complaints and appeals with honesty, objectivity and attachment to the editorial standards and ethics assumed by the journal.
  7. The Editorial Council will apply the necessary preventions to avoid the appearance of possible conflicts of concern.
  8. Editors and reviewers will maintain the discretion and confidentiality in relation to the criteria derived of the analysis of the quality of the articles.
  9. The reviewers commit to scientific accuracy in the process of revision and the notification in the established term.
  10. In case of detecting plagiarism, cyber-plagiarism, or redundant publication, the Editorial Council will analyze the situation with objectivity and it will apply the established procedure in the anti-plagiarism policy: refusing the sending (before publishing it) or retraction (if the article had already been published).
  1. The Editorial Council is responsible for the accuracy of the editorial process, the enrichment of standards, requirements and good practices that contribute to the quality of the magazine.

History of the journal

Educación and Sociedad Journal was founded in 2004. It was ascribed to the former Manuel Ascunce Domenech Higher Pedagogical Institute of Ciego of Ávila which in 2008 became the University of Pedagogical Sciences. Later, by agreement No. 7599 of August 2, 2014, adopted by the Executive Committee of the Council Of Ministers, this institution became part of Máximo Gómez Báez University of Ciego de Ávila ascribed to the Ministry of Higher Education.

It is registered in National Registry of Serial Publications (RNPS- Spanish acronym) of Ministry of Culture of Cuba, with the number 2073, page 091, volume III. In July 2017 it was certified by the Ministry of Science, Technology and Environment of Cuba (CITMA- Spanish acronym).

The journal has maintained an uninterrupted publication from its origin to the present time. On January 2015, different changes take place in the editorial policy:  issued every four months, change of logo, sections of previous numbers are not published and the following sections are added: Articles, Features and profiles, and School context.

A volume composed of three issues (January-April), (May-August) and (September-December) is published yearly.
