Management of the sports movement: current status at the University of Pinar del Río “Hermanos Saíz Montes de Oca”

Introduction: university sports play an essential role in the holistic development of students, as they promote physical activity, teamwork, and values such as effort and personal growth. Therefore, their management constitutes a key subprocess within university extension activities. Objective: to present a diagnosis of the management process of the sports movement at the University of Pinar del Río "Hermanos Saíz Montes de Oca". Method: a qualitative approach was used, combining theoretical methods, such as historical-logical analysis and modeling, with empirical methods, including interviews, questionnaires, and document analysis. Results: the diagnosis identified regularities that evidenced current limitations in managing the sports movement. These findings confirmed the need to transform the process to make it more systematic, efficient, and of higher quality. Conclusion: the analysis highlights the importance of considering sports movement management as a strategic component to strengthen the holistic education of university students. This involves not only addressing the identified limitations but also fostering an integrative vision that better coordinates human, material, and institutional resources to achieve a sustainable impact over time.
