Influencing factors in the academic performance of students in virtual education during COVID -19: the case of the Administration and Tourism Faculty of the Santiago Antúnez de Mayolo National University
Abstract
The COVID-19 pandemic has impacted the economic and social development of the countries of the planet, where all sectors have been vulnerable. Specifically, in this scenario, Peruvian higher education has had to face great challenges through several institutional transformations, including those related to undergraduate teaching with the growing support of the virtual education, which has led to direct effects, among others, in the academic performance of students. The goal of this research was to analize the main factors that influence student academic performance during two semesters developed in the COVID-19 pandemic through virtual education in the academic programs of the Administration and Tourism Faculty in the University Santiago Antúnez de Mayolo. For this purpose, a exploratory researh was carried out with a non experimental transectional design. For it, the perception of students and teachers about the behavior of the measures of student academic performance was taken into account. The main results indicate that the main factors of influence were linked to the contextual, personal and institutional, existing different visions in students and teachers. It can be posed that this educational phenomenon has a multifactorial character, and it is manifested, in a particular way, in each of the institutional and national realities.
